FRESNO, CA – Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) has taken delivery of a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle to support its public safety emergency response fleet. The new Rosenbauer Panther ARFF vehicle replaces the retirement of ARFF Vehicle No. 2, which was originally commissioned in 1993.
Specific to aviation operations, the new ARFF vehicle is designed and used for responding to aircraft firefighting and rescue activities. Customized with technological advances for safety, the ARFF vehicle is equipped with a state-of-the-art infrared camera system to enable operator visibility in dense smoke and fog conditions. The vehicle is capable of on/off road maneuvering and is outfitted with a 3,000 gallon capacity water tank and a separate tank for liquid foam agent concentrate.
“Delivery of the new ARFF vehicle enhances FAT’s emergency response capabilities and supports our commitment to provide a safe environment for the traveling public,” said Director of Aviation Kevin Meikle. “Our Airport Public Safety team is trained and equipped to provide the highest level of safety.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all commercial airports to maintain a dedicated airport public safety division to support emergency response. The two ARFF vehicles support FAT’s Airport Public Safety operation with continuous 24/7 rescue protection. With over 100,000 commercial, military, general aviation and air cargo aircraft operations each year, FAT’s Airport Public Safety team continuously trains and prepares to respond to various types of aircraft emergencies.
